Four permanent disabilities COID will pay out a lump sum for

by , 29 September 2014
If your employee has a permanent disability because of his work, he can get compensation. When you claim disability compensation for your employee, the Compensation Commissioner will evaluate the disability and give it a percentage.

If he gives the disability a percentage of 30 or lower, your employee will get a once off lump sum payment.

This means the injury isn't very serious and will inconvenience him without impacting his life or ability to work too badly.

Here are four such permanent disabilities COID will treat in this way...

COID will pay out a lump sum for these four permanent disabilities

Disability 1: Loss of one toe

The Commissioner will give such a disability a 1% rating because it may make it difficult for your employee to wear flip-flops but it won't impact the rest of his life.

Disability 2: Loss of a whole big toe

This normally gets a 7% rating as it's still not serious but will inconvenience your employee more than losing one of his other toes and may affect his balance slightly.

Disability 3: Loss of sight in one eye

This has a disability percentage of 30. It has a significant effect on your employee but he can still function normally and do most jobs with relative ease.

Disability 4: Hearing loss in one ear

The percentage for this type of disability depends on the extent of the hearing loss. If it's full hearing loss, it'll have a higher percentage than if your employee's ability to hear in that ear is less.

For these four disabilities your employee will get a once off lump sum because they won't prevent your employee from living a normal life.
