If your employee loses his eye sight because of his job, will COID pay him compensation?

COID gives employees compensation to cover any injuries or diseases they get as a result of their jobs. This is to help them cover any medical expenses or money they lose if they can't work.

So what does COID do if your employee loses his sight because of his job? This is an injury that'll affect every aspect of his life, especially his ability to work.

Here's how COID will help your employee if he loses his eye sight

 
COID considers your employee's loss of his eye sight as a permanent disability. This is because it's something he'll never recover from.
 
When it comes to permanent disabilities, COID will give your employee either a once off lump sum or a monthly pension. It will determine which one to give him based on his disability percentage.
 
The Commissioner, with a panel of doctors, will determine your employee's disability percentage based on his doctor's report.
 
Normally, the Commissioner considers loss of sight in one eye as 30% and loss of sight in both eyes as 100%.
 
Here's what this means for your employee's compensation.

Here's how your employee's disability percentage will affect his compensation

 
If your employee loses sight in one eye (30%) then COID will give him a lump sum. 
 
If he lost his sight in both eyes (100% disability) he'll get paid 75% (¾ ) of his wages. If this is the case you'll use this formula to work out the monthly payment: [wages * (75 ÷ 100)] * (disability% ÷ 100).
 
So if your employee loses his sight COID will help him. What he gets depends on whether the loss is one eye or both.
