Guarantee your company's health and safety compliance by sticking to these three components

by , 20 October 2014
Health and safety is a complicated process. After all, there are so many different facets to it.

But you have to get it right to fulfil your legal obligation to protect your employees.

That's why you need to follow the OHS Act and implement legally compliant health and safety procedures in your company.

And if you adhere to these three key components, you can ensure you do just that...

Stick to these three key components, to ensure health and safety compliance

Component 1: Health and safety admin
These are all the tasks you must do and documents you must complete to make your company health and safety compliant.

This includes tasks such as:

- Health and safety inspections;
- Health and safety housekeeping;
- Creating a health and safety plan; and
- Creating a health and safety programme.

Can you answer these four health and safety questions?

Can an HSE officer do induction training?
Why do I need to do induction training?
Do I have to give my staff refresher induction training every year?
Do I need to give contractors induction training every time they come on site?

***********************************

Component 2: Health and safety training
You must train all your employees on health and safety and give your health and safety appointments special training.

You must document this with training registers and certificates.

Check out the Health and Safety Training Manual for everything you need to train your employees properly.

Component 3: Health and safety equipment and maintenance
You must put safety equipment in place where necessary and give your employees personal protective equipment (PPE).

Then you must maintain all of this equipment to ensure it remains effective. You must also assess its effectiveness and improve any equipment that isn't effective.

Adhering to these three components of health and safety will help you ensure your company's legal compliance.
