If you serve food at work, the DoL inspector will be on the look out for these five health and safety violations

by , 17 October 2014
There are very clear rules about health and safety when it comes to serving food, whether it's in a restaurant or in your workplace.

But if you serve food at work, you have to be even more careful. Health and safety laws state you must keep your employees safe at work. This includes being safe from poisoning, especially food poisoning.

That's why the DoL inspector will want to check out your workplace kitchen when he does a health and safety inspection on your workplace.

Here are the five health and safety violations he'll look for...

The DoL inspector will look for these five health and safety violations in your workplace kitchen

1. Not storing food properly
If you don't have proper storage for food, it will go off. This is a serious health hazard if you serve it to your employees. That's why you need to have proper fridges and cupboards to store food correctly.

2. Not disposing of food properly
If you don't dispose of leftover food in a safe and hygienic way, it will cause the spread of bacteria.

4. Dirty and unhygienic food preparation areas
If your workplace kitchen is dirty, it can contaminate food you prepare there.

5. Kitchen staff who don't wear proper attire
If your kitchen staff don't wear hair nets, gloves or face masks, they could spread germs through the food they make.

Don't let the DoL inspector find these five things in your workplace kitchen! If he does, he'll punish you for health and safety non-compliance.
