Revealed: Your health and safety supervisor's main responsibilities

According to the Health and Safety Advisor, your health and safety supervisor has three main areas of responsibility:

  • Moral. Your health and safety supervisor is morally responsible for taking care of the health and safety of his co-workers. He must ensure all employees go home in the same condition as when they came to work.
  • Financial. Your health and safety supervisor has to see that your employees work effectively to prevent injury to others, or damage to machinery and material. He must ensure that profit is made at as little loss as possible).
  • Legal. He has to ensure all your employees comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

This means he must co-ordinate emergency contingency planning exercises, issue and explain the use of personal protective clothing (PPC) and personal protective equipment (PPE) and supervise work processes, induction and work training.
