Nominate your domestic for the 2013 Domestic Worker of the Year Award

by , 17 July 2013
Nominations for the Domestic Worker of the Year Award are now open. The award aims to recognise the hard work done by domestic workers. Nominations close on the 21st of July.

Has your domestic worker been professional and efficient in carrying his or her duties?

If so, you should nominate her for the Domestic Worker of the Year Award. The initiative gives you the platform as an employer to show your domestic worker appreciation for the work he/she does for you.

This award which is the first of its kind to coincide with National Domestic Workers' Day which was started by entrepreneur Sizile Makola last year, in the hope that 27 July will become an annual day for celebrating domestic workers.

Event organisers say 'we need to value what domestic workers do because inevitably they enable the successful running of the country's economy because they give many South Africans the freedom and security to be employed or run their business knowing that their children and homes are well.'

According to the National Domestic Workers Day website, South Africa has about 1.1 million domestic workers, many of whom are women.

The winning domestic worker stands a chance to win an all expenses paid stay at the Sheraton Hotel. This is also where the winner will be announced during a National Domestic Workers Day event.

For information on the award visit www.domesticworkersday.co.za. And remember, nominations close on 21 July 2013, be sure to honour your domestic worker for the love and care she gives to you and your loved ones.
