Here's how to manage John's leave if he gets tick bite fever while on holiday
 

According to the Labour Law for Managers Loose Leaf Service, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) doesn't clearly regulate the situation where your employee falls sick while on annual leave.
 
But, if it happens, you don't have to regard those days as sick leave and you don't have to deduct them from the annual leave taken. This is the case even if your employee provides a medical certificate.
 
To make things clear and eliminate confusion, you can, for example, say in your Sick Leave Policy, 'only hospitalisation during annual leave will count as sick leave.'
 
By adding this to your policy, your employees will understand the conditions they need to meet to convert annual leave to sick leave.
