Six steps to completing the 360 degree feedback process

The Practical Guide to Human Resources Management outlines six steps you must take to complete the 360 degree feedback process:

Step #1: You and your employee must agree on his job deliverables and performance requirements at the beginning of the performance period.

Step #2: You and your employee must agree on other relevant stakeholders you'll ask to provide feedback at the end of the performance period. This feedback will be for the period under review and about the specified requirements.

Step #3: Your employee completes a self-evaluation of his performance for the period under review.

Step #4: As your employee's direct manager, you must complete an evaluation of your employee's performance for the period under review.

Step #5: Collect all the feedback from the relevant people involved.

Step #6: Meet with your employee to compare his self-evaluation with feedback from the other stakeholders.

Discuss any conflicting views, using the feedback evidence to support your views. Compile a development plan for your employee to address some of the performance or behavioural issues that might've been identified by the feedback.

There you have it: Following these six steps will help you complete the 360 degree feedback process successfully.
