Here's how to ensure your employees take care of their safety goggles

by , 26 August 2014
Your employees' eye health is important. If they go partially or completely blind they can't work, they can't do the things they enjoy and they can't carry on with their life as normal.

That's why they MUST wear personal protective equipment (PPE), particularly safety goggles or glasses at work to protect their eyes. But it's just as important for your employees to take care of their safety goggles as it is for their safety goggles to protect their eyes.

If you want to ensure your employees don't damage or lose their safety goggles, here's what you must do...

Here's how to ensure your employees take care of their safety goggles

To ensure your employees take care of their safety goggles, train them on how to use them and look after.

Instruct them to keep their goggles on their faces while they're busy with work activities. If their goggles have straps, they can let them hang around their necks when they aren't working. They must just ensure they don't over stretch the straps or they won't fit them properly anymore.

If the safety glasses have arms, your employees should keep them in a secure pocket.

They must never put the goggle down with the plastic or glass touching the surface they're on. If they do, it'll scratch the lenses and that'll make it harder for your employees to see through them.

You must also instruct your employees on how to clean their safety goggles.

Can an HSE officer do induction training?

According to the OHSA, you must do induction training for new employees, external contract workers, even employees returning from maternity leave. And every time there's new legislation, or if you have a new safety process or equipment.

It sounds like you could be doing induction every month! And who has the time to create proper training material? And ensure its correct?

So, I did some research to see what Induction training is available to make your job easier.

Here's what you must tell your employees on how to clean their safety goggles

Your employees must keep all their safety gear clean to ensure they can use it properly. This applies to their safety goggles too.

They must only clean them with certain cloths that won't scratch the goggles. They should also wipe the straps, arms and rubber seal with a damp cloth to clean off the sweat.

If your employees do all this, you can ensure thier safety goggles will always be in the best condition to protect their eyes.
