You can only complain about Sandy's revealing top if you have a dress code policy in place.
 
In it, you'll say what is and isn't suitable dress code in your office. If you don't, it will be hard to tell Sandy her top isn't appropriate.
 
Basically, you can't discipline your employee for breaking a rule or policy she doesn't know about. If you do, discipline will be unfair. And she could take you to the CCMA.
 
That's why you need a dress code policy. It will make sure all your employees know what your company's dress code is.
 
So, when Sandy shows up with a revealing top, you can use your policy to tell her she's breaking a rule and you can discipline her fairly.
 

To put together your dress code policy, you must consider:

 
  • The culture of your company;
  • Whether or not male employees need to wear ties;
  • Whether you want your employees to only dress formally when they meet a client;
  • What's inappropriate to wear;
  • Whether it's fair for one group of employees to be more formal than others;
  • Whether you want employees to wear a uniform;
  • Whether you will allow tattoos and body piercings; and
  • Whether or not to have casual Fridays.
