Where you advertise could help you fulfil your company's employment equity requirements

Where you advertise could help you fulfil your company's employment equity requirementsAccording to the Employment Equity Act, you're required to eliminate unfair discrimination in the workplace. According to new studies, your company's recruitment process is one of the most common barriers to doing this and one of the easiest to overcome. And it's easier to do than you think...

One of the fastest ways to reach the correct employment equity requirements outlined by the Act is to ensure your HR Department hires with your company's employment equity needs in mind.

The recruitment stage is frequently a barrier to doing this as it can be hard to attract candidates from different groups.

If you can overcome this, you'll attract a larger pool of candidates for the job you're recruiting for and be able to find a suitable candidate to fit your employment equity requirements.

The way to overcome this recruitment obstacle is easy…

Whenever possible place your job ads where they'll be accessible to under-represented, minority groups.

Instead of only placing ads in major newspapers like Die Burger or Rapport, consider looking for candidates by placing job ads in the Sowetan or other local community newspapers as well.

This will ensure you get a greater selection of candidates for the job and will help you get one step closer to reaching those all-important employment equity requirements

So before you next advertise a job opening, sit down with your HR department and make sure they've considered your company's Employment Equity plan when it comes to recruiting a suitable candidate.
