The only want to ensure your risk management process is a success is to monitor risk control measures.

But how do you do this?

Simple, follow these four guidelines:

#1: Activate your monitoring programme.

Note: In the planning phase, you'll have determined how to monitor if the risk has been sufficiently controlled. After you implement risk control measures, it's time to put this programme in motion.

#2: Conduct task observations

You must do this to ensure employees you've trained to do work that involve new risk controls work according to the new requirements.

#3: Monitor and trend any incidents that arise from your new risk controls

The Health & Safety Advisor says 'there should not be any (incidents) if you have selected your risk controls wisely and done HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) before implementing the new controls.'

#4: Monitor and trend a decrease in incidents related to the new risk control measures

Doing this will give you an indication of how well your new risk control measures are doing. If you see a decrease in incidents, you're on the right track.

The bottom line: Your risk management will be totally useless if you don't monitor the efficiency of your risk control measures. So be sure to follow these four guidelines.
