1. Check if the country you went to for business offers a Vat refund
 
The countries you can claim Vat refunds in are:
 
  • Austria;
  • Australia;
  • Belgium;
  • Denmark;
  • Finland;
  • France;
  • Ireland;
  • Japan;
  • Luxembourg;
  • Netherlands;
  • Norway;
  • Poland;
  • South Korea;
  • Sweden; and
  • The United Kingdom.
 
2. Check for expenses that qualify for a Vat refund
 
The expenses that qualify are:
 
  • Car rental;
  • Taxi fare;
  • Public transport (train, aeroplane and bus fares);
  • Conference costs;
  • Seminar fees;
  • Exhibition stand costs and stand hire;
  • Trade fair expenses;
  • Training course fees;
  • Hotel accommodation;
  • Tickets and entrance fees;
  • Fuel (petrol and diesel);
  • Legal fees (e.g. for contracts, trademark or patent registrations); and
  • Meals and refreshments.
