The Construction Regulations 2014 has introduced changes that affect your duties when it comes to starting construction projects.

Under these new regulations, here are 10 simple steps to follow when starting a construction project:

Step#1: Plan the project and appoint an agent to advise you on health and safety requirements.

Step#2: Prepare your Health and Safety Specification.

Step#3: Prepare your Health and Safety Plan.

Step#4: Draft and agreement between yourself, your agent and the principal contractor.

Step#5: Show proof of competency and compensation.

Step#6: Oversee the duties of the principal contractor and other contractors and ensure that they are competent to carry them out.

Step#7: Supervise all construction with the principal contractor appointing a competent person to manage the work.

Step#8: Ensure administration and training with contractors electing Health and Safety Representatives, holding regular health and safety meetings and carrying out health and safety training.

Step#9: Ensure they you are complying with all the regulations in all areas. 

Step#10: Once the project is complete, collect the Health and Safety File from the Principal Contractor and ensure that the designer does a structural inspection at the final inspection.
