Do this to ensure your employees can always find your fire equipment, emergency exits and first aid kits

by , 04 September 2014
When an emergency happens in your workplace, such as a fire or even an earthquake, your employees need to get out or help deal with the situation quickly. But they can't do this if they don't know where your fire equipment, emergency exits or first aid kit are.

That's why it's so important to ensure your employees can find all of these things quickly.

To ensure they can, you must do this...

Here's how to ensure your employees can locate your fire equipment, emergency exits or first aid kits

Fire equipment: Mount your fire equipment, such as fire extinguishers, on the walls around your workplace. Ensure everyone can see them clearly and get to them fast. You mustn't put anything in front of these that could stop employees from reaching them.

Place safety signs high above each and every extinguisher so employees can see the signs over other obstacles.

First aid kit: Leave this on an open shelf or in a cupboard that doesn't have anything else in it. You must ensure your employees can get to this kit easily without having to dig through stuff to get to it.

Place a safety sign above the place where you keep the kit so your first aiders can find it fast.

Emergency exits: Ensure there's nothing in the way of your emergency exits so your employees can see and get to them quickly. You must also put safety signs around your workplace to guide employees to the closest exit.

By doing this for all three of these things you can help your employees respond to emergency situations correctly. The faster they can react and do what they need to do, the more effectively they can help you manage the situation.
