Here's what the DoL says every worker should know about health and safety

by , 20 June 2014
Do you think you have to sit alone in your ivory tower, spending hours planning your health and safety programme?

Do you think this programme is something you'll just put in place and all will be well?

If you do, you've forgotten about the people your OHS programme is there to protect. Your employees must play a role in the whole process as well.

In fact, the DoL says one of the things every worker must know about health and safety is their responsibilities.

And it's YOUR duty to tell them about their health and safety responsibilities...

Your Health and Safety role is not exactly an easy one!
Right now, the headaches, stresses, time-drainers and financial costs of Health and Safety in your company seem endless. You're having to constantly stay on top of changes and updates being made to laws and regulations – and implementing these changes.

Your employees have health and safety responsibilities too

Your employees can't just sit back and take your health and safety procedures for granted. They must pull their weight too and comply with their responsibilities.
According to the DoL, these responsibilities are to:
- Take care of their health as well as the health of the people around them;
- Work with you when the law says they have a health and safety duty;
- Give any DoL inspector who comes to the workplace information they ask for;
- Follow a health and safety instruction that you or another authority give them;
- Follow the health and safety rules and procedures you give them;
But how can you ensure your employees understand all their responsibilities?
