Vital safety information your employees must have in case a shooter enters your workplace

by , 22 September 2014
It's a terrifying thought. Someone comes into your workplace with a gun and shoots anyone in their sight.

And while you may think it's just something that happens in movies or TV shows, that's not true.

This does happen in real life and it can happen to you. All it takes is an employee or ex-employee with a grudge to finally reach the end of their tether.

That's why your employees need to know what to do if this happens...

Give your employees this information so they can respond correctly if there's a shooter in the workplace

If a fire breaks out in your workplace, it'll react in a predictable way. People aren't as predictable though. And that makes responding to a gunman in your workplace difficult. You don't know what'll set him off.

That's why it's important that your employees know what to do and how to respond if they hear gun shots.

Tell your employees to do this if they hear gun shots

If your employees hear gun shots, but don't see the shooter, they must get up and get to the emergency exit as fast as possible.

It's important that your employees get out of the line of fire as soon as they can and the best place for them is outside your building.

But if they can see the shooter they must respond differently.

Do your first aiders know what it is?

Tell your employees to do this if they can see the shooter

If your employees can see the shooter, they must get out of his eye line immediately. If he sees them he may shoot at them.

So instead of running for the exit, they should rather hide under their desks and make themselves as small as possible.

With this information your employees will be more likely to survive an emergency like this.
