The mining strike is over, but platinum producers will have to retrain their employees

It's finally over! The five month platinum strike has come to an end. Sadly though, the mines can't just jump back into the thick of things.

A lot has happened in the last five months.

The employers have to reintroduce workers to their working environment. This includes redoing health and safety induction training all over again.

If your employees ever go on a strike and return five months later, here's what you'll have to do...

Can an HSE officer do induction training?
According to the OHSA, you must do induction training for new employees, external contract workers, even employees returning from maternity leave. And every time there's new legislation, or if you have a new safety process or equipment.
It sounds like you could be doing induction every month! And who has the time to create proper training material? And ensure its correct?
I did some research to see what induction training is available to make your job easier.

Your returning employees must go through safety induction training

An induction programme is about ensuring your employees know how things in your company work. This is your way of telling them all about your health and safety rules and your safety work procedures before they start working.
If your employees have been away for five months, those rules may have changed. So your safety induction training must remind them about:
- Their health and safety responsibilities
They must remember what you and the OHS Act expect them to do.
- Their duty to report unsafe working conditions to you
If no one has been in the workplace to use your equipment, it may have become rusty and stiff. This isn't safe and your employees must tell you ASAP.
- How to use their PPE
If you've changed or got them new PPE during the time they were away, this is even more important.
- The need to arrive fit for work
Since they've been away from work they may have picked up some bad habits including drugs and alcohol. You have to remind them that they CAN'T come to work intoxicated!
- The importance of safe behaviour
You need to remind them that they're back at work and they must act like it. No pranks or fighting is acceptable. 
Ensure your returning employees go through the full safety induction training process to make 100% sure they remember how to protect themselves.
