Don't fret if you don't know how to file your returns – SARS' Help-You-eFile service will make things easier

What is Help-You-eFile?

SARS explains on its website that the Help-You-eFile tool allows you to ask a SARS agent to share your view of the eFiling screen on your personal computer with them.

This means the agent will help you identify the problems you're experiencing and help you solve the issue. He'll literally talk you through the process of completing your tax return.

You can ask for help when it comes to any of the following functionality on eFiling:

  • ITR12 Income Tax Return – only if you open your return with Flash Player on the Income Tax Work Page
  • ITR12 Notice of Assessment (ITA34)
  • ITR12 Statement of Account (ITSA)
  • ITR12 Tax calculator
  • Request for correction
  • Payments
  • Additional payments
  • Password reset
  • Changing passwords
  • Relevant material (supporting documents)
  • Returns issued
  • Returns history
  • Returns search
  • SARS correspondence
  • Disputes
  • User functionality
  • Additional services.

If you run into any trouble while filing your 2014 tax return, you'll be able to call on the support and advice of SARS' staff without having to visit a SARS branch.

You can start a Help-You-eFile session by clicking on the Help-You-eFile icon on the SARS eFiling login page or after you've logged on to SARS' eFiling website. It's that simple.

Look out for our next article on the Help-You-eFile tool. We'll give you all the steps you need to take to login to the Help-You-eFile tool so you'll have no trouble meeting your November 21 deadline for filing tax returns.
