Don't make these 10 interviewing mistakes again! The best candidates are well-prepared for the interview. They've studied, they've researched, and they've rehearsed. But what about you? Are you ready to make the kind of first impression in the interview that'll make the best candidates eager to join your team?

Make sure you don't make these 10 mistakes when you're looking for the best employee for your company!

Don't make these interviewing mistakes

1. Don't be late. When you're late, it says the job and applicant isn't important.
2. Do your homework. Know as much as possible about the applicant. Make sure you've read the application and CV. Look the candidate up on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook for a sneak peek into what they're like after hours. Check references before the interview, this way you won't waste time interviewing someone who you don't think's suitable.
3. Know what you're looking for in a candidate. You can't find the right person if you don't know what you're looking for. Define the capacities, attitudes, personality traits, and skills it takes to be successful in the position.
4. Prepare a list of interview questions. You'll get the information you need and base your decision on facts and not your gut-feel.  Don't wing it – you won't cover the ground you need to.
5. Be careful of the 'experts'.  You could land up interviewing  someone who's an 'interview expert'… He's read the books and knows the answers you want to hear to make a great impression. Preparing your questions will help filter expert answers out.

7. Be enthusiastic about the position. If you aren't, the applicant won't be. He'll also think the position isn't for him based on the impression of the position you gave off.
8. Don't take phone calls or allow interruptions. Give the applicant your undivided attention. Be professional in all ways when interviewing, besides giving the applicant a bad image, you could get a bad reputation in the market about the way you run things.
9. Listen attentively. Don't let you mind wander onto your next question or to the stuff on your desk instead of concentrating on what the applicant's saying. You could miss the perfect candidate because you weren't focused.
10. Market your company as a great place to work. Your objective isn't only to select the best person for the job, but to make sure applicants want to work for you and grow their careers.
