When it comes to job interviews, you need to prepare just as much as the job candidate. And it's not just while you're in conducting an interview. You need to put in work before, during and after the interview. This is Interviews 101. And if you don't make sure you cover these basics, your company's recruiting process could fail and land you with the wrong candidate.

Interviews 101: Here's what you need to do before and during the job interview

Before the interview
Before an interview you need to do interview prep. This includes looking through the candidate's CV very carefully. 
You must go through it and develop your questions. You must make these job interview questions as specific to each candidate as you possibly can. 
 
Don't just use predictable easy questions because candidates can prepare and rehearse their answers for these. Be clever about how you create your questions. 
 
During the interview
During the interview you need to look and behave in a way that really represents your company. You must follow an interview dress code the same way the candidate does. This even applies to video call interviews over Skype.
 
To help you remember everything you want to ask the candidate, create and use an interview checklist.
