Three tips you can use to become a better recruiter

by , 27 October 2014
Being good at your craft will help you achieve great results. This certainly applies when it comes to recruitment.

If you have the know-how, chances are, you'll embark on a recruitment drive, find the right candidate in no time and avoid any legal comebacks because everything you do will be efficient and above board.

To perfect your craft, take a look at three effective tips you can use to become a better recruiter.

Become a better recruiter by using these three tips

Tip 1: Hire the 'sure thing' when recruiting employees
Human Resources Expert, Susan M. Heathfield, explains that, Bruce N. Pfau and Ira T. Kay, the authors of The Human Capital Edge are convinced that you should hire a person who has done this 'exact job, in this exact industry, in this particular business climate, from a company with a very similar culture.'
They believe that 'past behaviour is the best predictor of future behavior' and suggest this is the strategy that will allow you to hire winners. They say you must hire the candidates whom you believe can hit the ground running in your company.

Tip 2: Be known as a great employer
You mustn't just be a great employer, you must let people know you're a great employer. This is the key to attracting the best candidates.
Take a look at your employee practices for retention, motivation, accountability, reward, recognition, flexibility in work-life balance, promotion and involvement, says Heathfield.
'These are your key areas for becoming an employer of choice. You want your employees bragging that your organisation is a great place to work. People will believe the employees before they believe the corporate literature,' says Heathfield.
Tip 3: Conduct background checks when recruiting
Experts behind the Labour Law for Managers Loose Leaf Service say not doing background checks on new employees could be your biggest mistake.
They say, if you don't do these, you could end up hiring someone with a bad credit history in your finance department or someone convicted of drunken driving as your company driver.
So always conduct background checks to ensure you're hiring the right person for the job.
Using these three tips will help you become a better recruiter.
