Do this to help protect your company against earthquake damage

by , 26 September 2014
In the past year South Africa has had three earthquakes. These ranged between a magnitude 4 and 5.3.

The second earthquake was the deadliest and resulted in serious damage and one death. This could be a sign that SA has become more venerable to earthquakes.

If these earthquakes continue to happen and get worse, it could be deadly for your business.

Luckily there are things you can do today to help you protect your company and employees from this disaster in future.

Here's what you can do...

This is what you need to do today to protect your company against earthquakes

You need to assess your business premises to determine how structurally sound it is. The sturdier it is, the more likely it is to stay standing during an earthquake.

If it isn't structurally sound, take action and hire contractors to build extra support structures into the building.

You can speak to a structural engineer to get a professional opinion on what your building needs in order to survive an earthquake.

But you also need to protect your employees.

Here's how to protect your employees from earthquakes

To protect your employees, you need to have effective evacuation procedures in place. You must educate your employees on these so, if an earthquake happens, they can get out of the building quickly.

These procedures must detail how employees must leave, where they must exit and who's in charge. Also include other rules such as who can help with first aid and how everyone should behave.

By doing this you can ensure employees get out safely.

You need to prepare for earthquakes today in case worse ones happen in future. By taking these steps today, your company and employees will survive.
