Do you have a contractor who is working on your premises?
If so, then you need to pay attention because the new Construction Regulations have made it your responsibility to ensure that your contractor is fulfilling his obligations.
Having said that, here are the six GOLDEN rules for contractors. So make sure that they are carrying them out:
Rule#1: Your contractor must provide all of his workers with the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Rule#2: No one who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be allowed on the premises.
Rule#3: He must obey the road traffic rules when driving on your premises.
This essential tool guarantees your construction site will always be fully compliant with the DoL's new construction regulations...
If your site fails to comply with just one of the DoL construction regulations, it could result in an incident that leaves dozens of people injured or even dead!
Rule#4: Your contractor must insure all his staff, equipment and vehicles.
Even though he must pay UIF and Workman's Compensation, he is not responsible for his workers' medical aid coverage. It is the responsibility of each worker.
Rule#5: Your contractor must not engage in any risky behaviour whatsoever. This includes horseplay.
Rule#6: He must understand that any lack of compliance to your rules will be considered a breach of contract, after which his contract may be terminated.
There were the six golden rules that contractors should always keep in mind. SO ensure they do so and comply with them.
