Here's what to do during a safety inspection

by , 08 August 2014
The only way you can ensure your employees follow your health and safety rules is to inspect them regularly. You need to watch your employees at work. Check what they use, how they use it and what safety procedures they follow.

These inspections are vital to maintaining your health and safety standards. If your employees don't follow the rules, they're in danger. That means your health and safety will be weak.

So ensure you do safety inspections every few months, if not every month. Here's how to do it...

Secret revealed! Cut your time spent on health and safety training in HALF!

I've got a way to HALVE the time you spend searching for documents, checking for the correct up-to-date policies and preparing training material for staff.

Here's how to do a safety inspection on your workplace

First, you must collect all your safety documents together. You'll need these during your safety inspection
Then you must decide what you want to inspect. Look at things like:
- Your employees' PPE;
- How your employees use their PPE;
- If your employees follow safety procedures;
- If your managers are present and enforcing safety rules;
- How your employees use your machinery and equipment; and
- If your safety officers are present and fulfilling their duties.

Here's what to do once you're on site and ready to start the safety inspections

Depending on what you're inspecting, you'll need to go to the correct area. For example, if you want to inspect the condition of your employees' PPE, you go to their storage room. If you want to see how they use it, go to their work area.
Then it's a matter of watching. Look at what your employees do and compare it to the documents you have.
For example, if you're looking at how your employees use their PPE, look at your documents to see who should have what PPE. Then check if they're wearing it and how they're using it.
This is the best way to ensure all your employees follow the rules and stay safe.
