Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure done to preserve intact brain function manually. But not everyone can do CPR. For you to be able to do CPR correctly, you need to possess the following personality traits...

You already know that you have a duty to reduce and eliminate health and safety risk in your workplace.

This includes having a designated first aider in your company who knows how to perform CPR. But CPR can't just be performed by anyone. It's crucial that your first aider has the following qualities…

Does your designated first aider have the following qualities?

According to the Health&Safety Advisor your designated first aider should:

  1. Have the ability to act quickly, and think on his feet;
  2. Be able to stay calm and take control in an emergency situation;
  3. Have the knowledge and skill to perform the necessary treatment for the situation with confidence;
  4. Be observant of everything around him ;
  5. Be resourceful by using what's available at hand;
  6. Have the ability to be sympathetic to comfort your patient;
  7. Be empathetic s he can understand the emotions and feelings of your patient;
  8. Be respectable to the patient to gain their can trust; and
  9. Be positive and cheerful. This'll help to keep the patient calm.

If your designated first aider has the above mentioned qualities, he may be able to save an employee who is having a heart attack using CPR. Just remember that CPR alone is unlikely to restart the heart. The main purpose is to restore partial flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart until medical help arrives.
