Use this risk assessment model when examining procedurally controlled activities

by , 24 September 2015
Risk assessments help you identify hazards and assess risks in the workplace. On top of it, they are a legal requirement. So it is important for you to carry them out in the name of health and safety.

There are several risk assessment models that are used. One of them, as will be discussed in this article, is called the Operating Support Hazard Analysis, otherwise known as the O&SHA.

This particular analysis helps identify and evaluate hazards that result from implementing any tasks performed by your employees.

Having said that, here are six things that the Operating Support Hazard Analysis model will help identify:

1.      Activities that occur under hazardous conditions; their time periods as well as what is required to reduce any risk during the activities and time periods.
2.      Changes required in software and hardware, any facilities or equipment in order to remove hazards and reduce any associated risks.
3.      Requirements for any safety devices as well as equipment. This includes personnel safety equipment and life-support equipment.
